Begin your day at Achadinha Cheese Company. The Achadinha (Osh-a-deen-a) Cheese Company is a family-operated ranch led by Jim and Donna Pacheco along with their four children. They have roughly 100 cows pastured on 230 acres. Their cows—lovingly referred to as “the girls”—are fed brewers grain and yeast from four local breweries, whey, and just enough oat and alfalfa hay to keep their diet balanced. No hormones or pesticides are used on the ranch, and the family works with the cows’ natural cycle, meaning less cheese is produced during the winter months when milk production is lower. Enjoy a tour of their cheese plant and dairy parlor, meet the cows in the barn and the field, and round it out with a guided cheese tasting.
Next, head to the stunning Gold Ridge Organic Farm. Gold Ridge Organic Farms was founded by farmer Brooke Hazen in 2000 in the western hills above Sebastopol, where coastal breezes create ideal growing conditions for 88 acres of organically farmed olives, heirloom apples, and citrus. They grow and mill four olive oil blends (Tuscan, Picholine, Arbequina, Minerva) and 21 olive cultivars on their estate. All of their organic olive oils are milled on-site within hours of harvest for the highest medicinal quality, maximum freshness, and best flavors. You will be led on a tour of their show-stopping apple and olive orchards and olive mill, and finish with a tasting of their olive oil and apple products. A picnic lunch will be provided following the tour and tasting.
Our final stop is Wm. Cofield Cheesemakers. William Cofield Cheesemakers brings to Sonoma County its first proper British-style cheesemaker, now combined with its sister company, Alemar Cheese Co., that specializes in French-inspired, grass-fed cow’s milk cheese made with precision and old-world practices. Discover the artistry of traditional British-style cheesemaking, observing every stage from milk vats to the aging room and packaging area. End your day with a tasting of their masterfully crafted cheeses, a perfect finale to a journey through Sonoma’s creamery culture.
